He earned a high school diploma from Georgetown Preparatory and a bachelor's degree from Georgetown University in 1996. He founded the Performance Institute, the American Strategic Management Institute, and Reform California. As of his 2020 campaign, DeMaio was chairman of Reform California and hosted a daily radio show, "The DeMaio Report," on KOGO in San Diego.
