Biography

State Rep. Matt Longjohn is serving his first term representing the 40th House District, serving 90,211 constituents in Portage, Oshtemo Township, Texas Township and Southwest Kalamazoo. He is currently the only physician serving the state Legislature. Dr. Matt Longjohn spent the last 25 years developing community health coalitions and innovations which prevent injury and illness, implementing new models of health care delivery, expanding access to affordable health care, and advancing policies that improve the well-being of people across the country. Longjohn’s extensive experience includes leading national initiatives to combat chronic disease, improving health equity and advocating for strong environmental protections to safeguard natural resources for future generations. His commitment to bipartisan collaboration and data-driven solutions make him a trusted voice in addressing the pressing challenges facing Michiganders. When he’s not in Lansing, Rep. Longjohn enjoys spending time with his family, hiking Michigan’s beautiful trails and working in his community to inspire the next generation of leaders.
