Biography

Born in Baltimore City, Maryland, on August 28, 1967. She graduated from Paint Branch High School in Montgomery County in 1985. She earned a B.A. in Psychology from Radford University in 1989 and an M.A. in Community Counseling from Towson University in 1996. Karen Simpson served as a Residential Specialist for the DD/MH Individualized Services Program at Revisions, Inc. from 1991 to 1992, and as a Family Court Facilitator for the Harford County Office of Family Court Services from 1997 to 1998. She worked for the Maryland Department of Human Resources as a Child Protective Services Caseworker, Program Planning & Evaluation Specialist, and Program Manager from 1992 to 2006. From 2006 to 2008, she was the Deputy Director of Candidacy and Campaign Finance for the Maryland State Board of Elections. Since 2008, she has served as a Training & Education Program Manager for the Maryland State Retirement Agency. She was elected to the Maryland House of Delegates in November 2022 and has been a member since January 11, 2023.
