Biography

Marion County residents elected Leroy Robinson (Democrat) as an at-large Council member in 2011. He won election to the District 1 seat in 2015. He currently serves as the Chair of the Council's Public Safety and Criminal Justice Committee. Before taking office, Robinson worked as an administrator in the Pike Township Metropolitan School District. He taught history and government at Pike High School and in the Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township. He was a member of the Indianapolis Public Schools Board of Commissioners. He also worked as a newspaper columnist, radio host, and television host. Robinson attended the University of Central Missouri, Indiana University, and Indiana Wesleyan University. He earned a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree in education, and a Principal Administrator’s License. While serving as Councilor, Robinson, worked as the State Director of Family and Community Engagement for the Indiana Department of Education. He lives with his wife and three children in northwest Indianapolis.
