Biography
Maggie A. Lewis (Democrat) has served on the Indianapolis City-County Council since 2008, representing District 5. She previously served as Council President from 2012 to 2017, becoming the first woman in Council history to hold the position. In 2026, Lewis was elected Council President, returning to the role after previously serving as the Council’s Majority Leader. An Indiana State University alum, Lewis earned her bachelor’s degree in community health education and master’s degree in public administration. She graduated from Columbus East High School. Since graduating from Indiana State, she has dedicated her career to serving the public and those in need. Lewis currently works as the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis. Prior to joining the Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis, Lewis worked in public relations for Centaur, Inc., and also worked in a variety of non-profit agencies where she led all fundraising efforts and developed collaborative partnerships to expand the organizations’ missions and visions. Her organizational involvement includes memberships in Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. and LINKS, Inc. She is a devoted member of Mount Paran Church.
