Biography
Rena Allen (Democrat) was elected to represent District 15 on the city's far east side in May 2024. She is a member of the Administration and Finance, Municipal Corporations, and Rules and Public Policy Committees. Allen was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana, and is driven by a passion for progress and a dedication to serving the community with integrity and determination. She believes in inclusiveness, fairness, and freedom. By organizing community events like "Wing and a Prayer," voter registration drives, and life group classes addressing trauma, Allen seeks to foster unity and empowerment within the community. Throughout her illustrious career, Allen has been at the forefront of transformative initiatives that have not only improved lives but also reshaped the city's landscape. Some notable highlights include the "Jobs Not Jail Campaign," an initiative that led to the creation of the Mobile Crisis Assistance Team (MCAT), providing crucial support to individuals in mental health, substance abuse, and medical crises. By investing in people, she has demonstrated that community safety and well-being can be significantly improved. She has also worked on the Gun Violence Reduction Strategy, which was successfully implemented, a strategy that has saved lives and spurred economic opportunities within neighborhoods. Through collaboration with the Office of Public Safety and the establishment of an advisory board, she has laid the groundwork for sustained progress in the fight against gun violence. Allen's background in healthcare and grassroots organizations, combined with her academic achievements, equips her to navigate the challenges facing the city. She attended Indiana Wesleyan University, earning a Master’s of Public Affairs with a specialization in Criminal Justice and a certification in Mental Health Coaching. Allen is a proud member of the New Beginnings Fellowship Church where she holds a leadership position in the Ambassador of the Kingdom (AOK) evangelism ministry. As a devoted mother of three, Rena's dedication to serving others is deeply ingrained in both her personal and professional life, making her an invaluable asset to the community she serves.
